John Potash got introduced into the food industry in high school when the headmaster of his prep school caught the chef going out the door with a roast under his arm. John convinced the headmaster that the chef wasn't doing anything he couldn't do and so, for the next year and a half, he became the cook for 40 guys. The only rule he held himself to was, "I wouldn't ask anyone to eat anything I wasn't willing to eat!"
John Potash Catering actually got its start over 30 years ago when a friend of John's uncle came back to Sioux City to care for his mother and, after 30 years as a restauranteur in Miami, he decided his "retirement" was to cater like no one in the mid-west ever catered. He asked John if he wanted to learn the business of catering and the rest, as they say, is history.
When his mentor got sick and had a stroke, John continued to get calls from his mentor's high end clients and has maintained that high standard of catering for the mid-west ever since.
When it comes to kosher catering, John himself keeps kosher so he is very familiar with the laws of Kashrut and maintains a strict level of observance for those who need a kosher caterer.
